I hope you're enjoying the story xoxo

Jamal yawned and rolled over on his bed, he'd been reading all night. This WAEC tension wasn't helping matters, he had to read and re-read! He thought of Saffiyah, he wondered what was happening with her. Ever since they resumed from the short break she'd been acting weird. And he'd been so busy with school work and all that he hadn't had time to really talk to her. He sighed and carried he's chemistry note, he rolled over and held the book above him,the moment he opened it, a folded piece of paper fell on his face. He picked it up and flipped it to the other side and immediately recognized the handwriting he saw, just one word ... "Jamal."

Aisha sat in the living room having juice and watching TV with her husband, the girls were in the room, reading for their exams. She was about to tell her husband a joke she heard on the radio earlier that day when Maryam walked in; "Mummy, I have a question about something that's been bugging me for a while." Aisha looked up at Maryam curiously, looked over at her husband and sighed, looking at Maryam again; "What is it dear?" Maryam continued with so much confidence; "I want to know why we can't marry any other tribe apart fr......" "Common shut your mouth!" Her mother cut in; "where is that coming from?  You should be studying for your exams and you're here questioning me about marriage at 15! Will you get inside now before I lose it!" Maryam shrugged and walked away. "Aisha! You shouldn't have done that now, that's unfair. If they can't talk to you about issues like this, who would they talk to? It is things like this that make children fall prey to little things they should know about." Aisha frowned; "they're too young to be thinking of such." Ahmad laughed; "how old were we when we got married? These children need us at this stage of their lives, so we have to be there for them, get up let's go to their room." He got up and stretched out his hand, she put her hand in his,got up and walked with him to the girls' room.

"I told you not to ask mum that question, now see!" Saffiyah chided Maryam. "Was that the reason why she scolded me like that? As if it was an abomination to ask. Who are we supposed to ask if not them? Mtchwww!" "Calm down Maryam, she was probably in a bad mood. You know how mum gets about issues like this." Just then, there was a knock on their door; "Can we come in?" Their father called out. "Yes daddy" they answered in unison. They came in and sat with the girls on the bed. "Maryam. I'm sorry for snapping at you like that when you came in, I shouldn't have. Forgive me?" "Okay mummy." Maryam answered. "Thank you. The question you asked is a big one but I'll answer it anyway. Marriage is a lifetime thing, once you're in, you're in for better or worse. We all have different cultures and traditions, and its better to stick to what you're used to. Before a child gets married, its the parent's duty to find out all the necessary things about the partner's family to know what they're going into and to decide if its a good idea or not. They'll have to know about the characters they have, what they do and don't do, the kind of diseases or illness common in that family among other things like epilepsy, convulsion, madness and things like that. In most cases like ours, parents insist on intra-state marriage to make it easier for us to find out the necessary things we need to, marrying from another state entirely would make it difficult or even impossible for the parents to do anything, and so most people get married and become unhappy for as long as the marriage lasts, and that's the cause of broken homes in some cases. There are many reasons but to your understanding, I picked out little to tell you. And I do hope you understand my darlings?" "Yes mum." It was Saffiyah who answered, Maryam just stared at their mum blankly; "So girls how is studying going." Their father's voice jolted Maryam back to reality; "Good! Studying is good. Thanks for telling us about this." She answered with a smile.

Saffiyah sat on her chair in class, revising her note before her first paper when a junior student walked towards her; "good morning senior Saffiyah, senior Jamal said he wants to see you." Her heart thumped. "Okay, tell him I'm coming soon." She closed her book and got up, she looked over at her sister who smiled and winked at her. Saffiyah rolled her eyes and left the class.

Jamal was a bit shaky, he couldn't believe what he had read in that letter and so he had to see her! It didn't take long before she walked into his class, he moved and she joined him on the seat. He stared at her for a while and she couldn't look at him, she just stared at her hands on the desk and after a while all he could manage to say was; "Why...?" Saffiyah sighed, glad that he broke the silence and also disappointed that she had to answer that question. "Jamal.... I really can't explain this okay? Its just so complicated plus we are still very young to think about anything serious. So I think we should just go our separate ways till we are old enough to decide what we want." Jamal was dazed, he just stared at her mouth as the words fell out. "Saffy, .... Don't do this... Please." "Jamal I'm scared, I'm scared of doing something stupid so I think that's the best thing to do and I'm sorry. Please forgive me okay...?" She had tears in her eyes and he really wanted to wipe them away but a teacher came in; "Take your bags outside and let's get ready for this paper." Jamal turned around to carry his bag and when he looked back, Saffiyah had left.

Broken Tears Episode 3

"Dupe!" Mrs Durojaiye called out; "go get the door, someone's knocking." She had come home early to prepare dinner for five, because the twins were coming into town today and they had kept it from Dupe because they wanted to surprise her. That's why she called her out to get the door herself, she would be so happy to see her friends again. She smiled at the sounds of the girls' squeals. They had grown up like sisters, and she was greatful since she couldn't have anymore children after she had Dupe. Dupe was her everything, after Michael of course! She loved her family with everything she was,her parents were late, and she was the only surviving child so this family was all she had. "Mummy mummy!!! Saffy and Maryam are here!" She chuckled and went to the living room, trying to act surprised; "oooooh my dears, how was your flight? How's mummy and daddy?" "They're fine ma!" Saffiyah answered, beeming. "Mummy you're looking younger!". Maryam observed. "Oh thank you my dear, and you're growing into a beautiful young lady." She replied knowing what Maryam liked to hear. "Saffy my little brownie, hope you've been a good girl to mummy and daddy?" "Yes I have ma, trust me now." "I do my dear, why don't you girls go in and freshen up while I prepare dinner." With that, the girls rushed in to Dupe's room, screaming and jumping and hugging.

"Wow Saffy, you're really in love with this guy." Dupe confirmed after Saffiyah narrated everything to her. Maryam raised an eyebrow; "I really don't know what's sooo bad about loving this guy, Saffy goes on talking about what mum and dad would say! If I should fall in love with a blind man, I'll marry the hell out of him! I really don't care o." Saffiyah rolled her eyes; "you're saying all these because you are not in that situation Maryam! Be reasonable jor! Mum and dad would kill me, especially mum! You know that!" Dupe held Saffiyah's hand on the bed; "Saffy, you should be patient for now, maybe sometime in the future, you'll meet someone who is really meant for you okay? We're still too young to know these things. And plus even if he's yoruba, I bet you wouldn't even have the guts to tell your mum that you have a boyfriend, because she would definitely kill you! So, can we talk about something else?" Maryam sighed and brought out her iPhone. "Maryam, I swear if you play 'My way' here I'll break that thing!" Dupe scolded. "Ah ahn! You too? Are you in love??? Please tell me, because only that can cause this beef for my playlist!" Maryam said, laughing hard. Saffiyah brought out the box of chocolates they bought and they all sat round it and ate, while updating each other on what they had missed.

Their holiday was fun; they went shopping with Dupe and her mum, played video games with her dad, strolled with her, and talked about everything! When it was time for them to leave it wasn't as painful as the first time, knowing they would see each-other soon again and they would have lots to talk about. Saffiyah hadn't decided what to do about Jamal yet, Dupe wasn't really interested in boys yet and Maryam was just too into Wande coal to worry about anything! While they were at the airport waiting, someone tapped Maryam from behind; "Please could you send me that song you're listening to?" He asked; maryam turned around to see the face behind the soothing voice and smiled at him; "Of course." After a while their flight was announced and it was time to leave, Saffiyah texted Dupe that they were leaving so they could stop waiting and head home. In the plane, they met the guy again, Maryam's was to sit next to him and Saffiyah sat behind them; "Aah, we meet again! I'm not sending you any more of my songs though!" Maryam stated. "Oh no problem, I have up to three thousand songs on my play list you know." "Wow, so much? Can I have a look." And they went on and on and Saffiyah just sat there, thinking about Jamal....

Broken Tears- Episode 2

The bell rang and Saffiyah heaved a sigh of relief! The class was so boring and some of the students had dozed off.     They started shuffling their feet on the ground and Mr Hakeem their Mathematics teacher had to leave the class. She looked over to where Maryam was sitted, her eyes were fixed on something beneath her desk, Saffiyah bent to check and chuckled; Her sister had been reading a novel the whole time, very soon she would come bother her for another one! She was surprised her sister hadn't had the time to catch any new dude yet, that was her normal routine at their former school, and it'd been two months they resumed here yet... Nothing! She turned back around and stretched, one more class and school would be over for that day, she couldn't wait! Maryam got up and walked out of the class along with some other students. Saffiyah frowned; where was she off to? She brought out her time table and checked to see what the next subject was; her heart stopped! Further Maths! How could she have forgotten? She hadn't done her assignment and Mr Ken would be here any second! She turned to see if she could get someone's note to quickly copy from, and just then Mr Ken walked in with five fat canes in one and and his note in the other. Saffiyah could literally taste salt in the corners of her mouth. "Open your notes and let me see your assignments, and God bless you if you haven't done it, I'll give you something to nurse this weekend!" Saffiyah looked around, some students were opening their notes and others were scribbling what they could in theirs. Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Saffiyah quickly turned at the sounds of his cane on the first person's back! Six strokes!! The boy screamed and started to cry! Oh God! What do I do? She thought. She couldn't possibly wait and get flogged, she would just faint! She got up, turned around and ran out through the back door as fast as her legs could carry her. "Who is that running out? Hey, come back here!" Mr Ken called out. She didn't turn around, she got to a  class, ran in and sat on an empty sit, she looked back to see if anyone was running after her, there was no one, she put her head on the locker. She so wished she was Maryam at that moment. Maryam wasn't offering the course, she said she didn't want to stress her brain and that too much stress could make a girl become ugly! Saffiyah was scared; what if he came in behind me and flogged my back? What if he sent four students to come and drag her back? What if a teacher walked into this class now?! She shut her eyes and tried to steady her breaths. Just then, someone came in behind her.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Jamal left the Biology teacher's office with a sigh of relief. This head boy work was really weighing him down, he was really lucky he had time to read his books. He couldn't wait to just write WAEC and leave high school. He jugged to his class, he had to finish reading his chemistry note before school closed. When he walked past the front door of his class an odd feeling came over him, a chilly feeling. He shrugged it off and walked towards the back door where his seat was and walked into the class. He walked towards his seat curiously, wondering who the young lady was and why she chose his seat. When he got close to her, she froze, he could see that she was alarmed and was probably hiding from something or someone; "Errr excuse me, may I join you?" He asked politely. She raised up her head and looked up at him; her eyes consumed him, he had never seen so much beauty in one body before, she had brown eyes, thesame colour with her hair, a small nose, pink lips, slender figure and long legs. He took it all in in no-time! She moved to the wall and then he sat. "What's your name?" He asked. She hesitated at first, then she stared at the tag on his shirt and decided to be polite; "Saffiyah." He smiled; "My name is Jamal Malik." He stated. She returned his smile with her own breath-taking one; "I know who you are. Everyone knows." And they started talking, asking and answering questions and laughing. They talked for a long while and were both disappointed when the bell rang signalling the end of school for that day. Jamal picked up his bag and walked with Saffiyah to her class to get hers. To his surprise, standing at the door of the class with two school bags was another Saffiyah, much darker and with more pronounced body curvatures. He couldn't help both notice that these two were really endowed. He tried to keep his gaze on the girl's face; "Are you two twins?" "Yes we are head boy, I'm Maryam by the way, has my baby sis' committed any crime?" If being so pretty and perfect is a crime then she has committed a crime that I'm not gon' let go off! "No, not at all. I just want to walk her to the school gate if you'll allow me." Maryam smiled; "Of course, shall we?"

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Saffiyah couldn't get her mind off Jamal, she saw him at school everyday! She ran into him everywhere! She was in love with him and him with her too, she could tell. Maryam always teased her about him, and shoved it aside when she tried to bring up the fact that he was a Hausa guy. "So what? Is he not a man? Are you not a woman?" She would say. But Saffiyah didn't want to go into anything that would make anybody unhappy with her at all, she was scared. But she loved this guy! She loved talking to him, all the time, he even put her through Further maths. She always fantasized about his big round eyes, his dark hair and side burns was perfect on his fair complexion! He had long lashes and his smile was ravishing! She could just stay all day, staring at him. He was cool, gentle and quiet, and easy going too. And he was so intelligent! An aspiring medical doctor. Awww how she so wished... "Oooh na na na na na, oooh na na na na na..." She rolled her eyes as her sister walked into the room playing 'My way' by Wande coal again! "Maryam get over yourself! Wande coal doesn't know you! And the song aint for you!!" Maryam turned around, and laughed histerically; "God! If this is what love does to a girl, could you please turn me into a guy? 'Cos I sure do wana fall in love someday, but not like this." "Maryam! Stop it please! I'm not happy at all. I really can't explain how I feel and I don't know what's gon happen!" "Saffy, follow your heart o! And stop all this outdated ish!" Maryam had guts! But she didn't want any trouble. She had to figure out a way out of this before it became too much for them both...

Broken Tears Episode 1

Broken tears is about a set of female twins in high school, senior year, whose parents are typical about tribal differences. Along with their best friend, they make plans for their future which is of course a bumpy ride especially for the twins. Oh well, before I tell it all, let's get into the story..

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wande coal's "My way" playing in the background.
"I really love this song! Its like he's singing it for me! I can't wait for someone to actually sing me a love song and really mean it!" Says Maryam, one of the twins, who loves to have fun but is very clever, and deep down, doesn't care what anybody thinks about anything, so long as it doesn't affect her twin and her besty! She's got dark brown skin, jet-black hair, and a commanding figure, unlike her twin Saffiyah who's a bit lighter, with brown eyes and hair, very soft-hearted and sweet with a simple curvy figure.
"Maryam please stop shaking your body would you? We know you're hot, but please don't rub it in! Come sit with us and have some chocolates." Her twin replies smiling, exposing her cute gapped tooth, two teeth away from her upper incisor. Maryam jumps on the bed and lies next to Dupe, their bestfriend, all three of them grew up together. But the twins and their parents were moving in two days, which meant, they would have to change school and would only see Dupe during the holidays. Dupe sighs; "I can't still believe you girls are moving. Its gon' be hard for me, I'll be going to school alone, I'll be alone during break and I'll be bored all through the rest of my school days!" "Common Modupe.." Maryam replies; "don't make it sound like we are dying. We'll spend our breaks together, it'll be fun! We'll have stories to tell about everything! And its not gon' be such a long time too, we'll be joining a new school from second term, and after we are through with this session, we'll be in S.S.3, before we know it, we're done! Cheer up! We're sad too, but it might be a good thing."
"Dang! It might be a good thing because you'll have the opportunity to catch some new guy ba? Common Maryam, we know your plans." Saffiyah chips in. They all laugh about it and eat their chocolates and plan how they'll spend their holidays together.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"Saffiyah! Hurry up! We mustn't miss our flight! Ah ah, I don't know why you didn't even pack all this while!" Mrs Ibrahim scolds her daughter;a beautiful young woman in herlate thirties dressed in a blue knee length velvet gown and a matching scarf, looking dashing even in her angry state, its obvious where Maryam got her killer looks from. "Aisha calm down now, we won't miss the flight." Her husband Ahmad replies, patiently waiting for his daughter to come out of the house. Ahmad is a successful contractor in his early fourties. "Don't mind mama ejima, she's just in a hurry to leave for Abuja! Who no like better thing!" Laughs Mrs Durojaiye; Dupe's mother. They are all at the Ibrahims to bid them farewell, Maryam is in the back sit of the car chatting away with Dupe, while their parents stand outside and talk. Finally, Saffiyah comes out, pulling two boxes with her; "Mum I told you my shoe was spoilt last night and you promised to help me fix it, that's what I've been doing." "You see," Dupe's mum points out; "you were now scolding the poor girl." "Did you remind me? Common enter the car jare!  I don't know why you didn't even send your load together with the rest two days ago!" They all bid their friends good bye, the twins hug their dear friend and get into the car, Maryam turns around to wave at Dupe till she's out of sight and then she sits back; "I'm really really going to miss Dupe." Saffiyah sniffs beside her; "please I don't want to talk about that okay?." Maryam turns to look at her twin, she sighs, here we go again; "awwww Saffy, don't cry, we'll see her again now, haba! Come here." She pulls Saffiyah to her shoulder and pets her; "Common don't be a baby now, we'll make new friends, we'll have a lot to tell Dupe when we vacate." And then she whispers; "and then we'll meet new boys!" "What was that?!" Aisha retorted. "Nothing mum." Saffiyah was quick to cover for her sister. And then she whispers to Maryam; "You're just a silly pervert!" They both laugh and Maryam brings out her iphone and passes one ear of the ear-piece to Saffiyah, who collects it happily, at least this would take her mind off Dupe for a while, but she rolls her eyes when her sister plays "My way" and puts it on repeat!
